Jennifer Gossett, MT-BC, is a native of Spartanburg, SC. A 1993 magna cum laude graduate of Furman University in Music Education, she taught band and chorus in public and private schools in the Lowcountry for 14 years before enrolling in the Music Therapy program at Charleston Southern University. Since completing the program and becoming a board-certified Music Therapist, Jennifer has begun her own private practice in the Charleston area, called Noteworthy Music Therapy. She works exclusively with special-needs children, focusing primarily on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities. Jennifer also serves as an adjunct Clinical Supervisor for Charleston Southern’s Music Therapy program, in which she oversees undergraduate students as they gain clinical experience working in public school special education classrooms.
Jennifer currently lives in Hanahan, SC, with her husband Kevin (an elementary-school music teacher), and their sons: Andrew, age 12 and Ethan, age 10. Both boys were born prematurely (at 29 weeks and 27 weeks, respectively) at MUSC in Charleston, and were long-time residents of the NICU. Since that time, both boys (and the Gossett family) have faced special-needs challenges of their own, including one diagnosis on the autism spectrum, one diagnosis of severe ADHD, and moderate but unexplained hearing loss. Jennifer credits her experiences as a parent of special children as the inspiration for her career in Music Therapy and her passion for working with children, using music as a tool to bring about positive change and an improved quality of life.
